Robert Lecter is a character in Hannibal Rising. He was the brother to Count Lecter and the uncle to his children Hannibal and Mischa. Much like his brother, he was a Count and had a wealthy estate to his name in France. He married a young Japanese woman named Murasaki, who hailed from a samurai ancestor and would later teach Hannibal the ways of combat.
After his brother and his family were killed during the war, Hannibal found himself seeking out Robert. At a market, a local butcher Paul Momund made racist remarks towards Murasaki. Hannibal was enraged and attacked the man. The incident triggered a fatal heart attack, which partly inspired Lecter’s killing spree, the butcher being the first victim.

- In the novels, Robert was alive when Hannibal arrived and died during a confrontation with Paul Momund.
- The television equivalent--rumored to appear in Season 2 or later--was rumored to be actor/musician David Bowie. The role had been offered to him. Bowie did not take the role.
